Chase, It wasn't the fact that it tastes like wine that struck me but the fact that they allow wine that is 9%+ ABV but not beer. I think that is discriminating against beer manufacturers. Just thought I'd clarify. Anyway thats great news about the bill and I congratulate FTH on all the hard work. Future success, Keith

Today Free The Hops in Alabama has passed their "Gourmet Beer Bill" through the senate and house and all that is required now is to get the Governor's Signature. So with as much support as we can get we are hoping to sway him towards signing it into law. If you are an Alabamian and have any desire to up our ABV to over 6% please help us contact our Governor showing your support.

Here in TN lower abv beers are limited to distributorship by beer distributors. Higher abv beers are designated in the malt liqour category and must be distributed by a liquor distributor and sold only in liquour /wine stores. Wine cannot be sold in grocery stores.
legally the measurement of alcohol is by weight, not by volume. So 5% by weight, the legal limit in TN, is actually pretty close to 6% abv. Regardless, the primary consideration as far as the state is concerned is taxation rate. I wish we were compalining about how ridiculous a 14 % abv limit was here........

I cannot believe some of the things I heard on the video. I think what I heard was when one of the reps. said it tastes like wine. Do they only allow 6% wine in Alabama. If they do allow a higher ABV in wine then isn't it discrimination against the beer brewers? Just a thought.
I am proud to say that the Governor of WA state just signed into law senate bill 5060 which allows (finally) homebrewers and winemakers to transport ther brews out of their house and share it with friends. Up until this point it was illegal to even have a homebrewers meeting with tastings of any beer other than the owner of the place you were meeting. Keep up the fight FREE THE HOPS!!
