Alaskan Brewing Company – Alaskan Winter, Ep. 94

From time to time we are fortunate enough to receive “samples” from various breweries across the country, this weeks beer came all the way from Juneau Alaska to Savannah, Georgia! I’m talking about Alaskan Winter from the Alaskan Brewing Company. Described as an Olde English Ale, this malty copper colored ale has a surprise flavor you don’t find in many brews -Spruce Tips! We were certainly impressed with this one, so much so, that we have a few more Alaskan beers to review in the coming weeks.

  • Ashley Said,

    Hi Paul and John,
    Great Review!
To answer your question – Alaskan Beers are currently available in 10 western states including Alaska (AK, AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NV, OR, WA, WY). It’s nearly 1000 miles from Juneau just to Seattle, but we’re slowly making our way to you in the Southwest 🙂

Also, the berry, almost fruity flavor you are getting is actually from the Sitka Spruce tips. We use the Sitka spruce not only because it is native to our home here in Southeast Alaska, but because it has an almost berry-like flavor with a surprisingly light pine or resinous profile.
Glad we could share a little taste of AK with your viewers – looking forward to more Beer AmericaTV reviews, Cheers!

  • Paul Said,

Thanks for the comment Ashley! I know we don’t “rate” beers here on BATV, but all of the beers we tried from Alaskan were excellent!! I urge all of our viewers to try it if you can find it.

  • Keith Barnett Said,

    John, Paul,
Living up here in Wa state I am very familiar with the great beers brewed by Alaskan Brewing Co. Thank you for your evaluation of the Winter Ale. I hope they sent you some of their Witbier and of course their Alaskan Amber which is hugely popular in this part of the world. Anyway great job guys hope to see more northwest beers soon on your show.
    Keith.
p.s.John next time you do a show don’t have Judge Judy playing in the background. Don’t want people to get the wrong idea about Moon River! 🙂
