A Candid Conversation with Brooklyn Brewery’s Garrett Oliver – Ep. 59

We all know Garrett Oliver is the best dressed man in the brewing business, but he’s also the brewer of some pretty great beers as well. As Brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery, Garrett knows quite a bit about American Craft beer as well as food. We caught up with him at the Craft Brewers Conference and let him talk about anything he wanted. This raw and somewhat candid interview is worth listening to from beginning to end! He has no problem letting us know about the progress and problems his industry faces and wants you to know about it!

  • butch mellon Said,

Lots of very nice comparisons here. The guy has done it all. One thing that was very wrong was, someone in the audience mentioned that golf courses leach phosphates into the water supplies. Well we use almost no phosphates as that tends to encourage weed and annual bluegrass growth. And what we use to feed and protect our grasses do not tend to move sideways in the soil profile. We have a very responsible commitment to the environment.

  • John Chafin Said,

I’ve seen all your episodes and I’m not one to normally comment, but the coincidence of this interview is unavoidable for me.

I stopped by a liquor store on my way home from doing contract computer work out of state to see if there was anything that piqued my interest. I saw a beer there that I hadn’t seen there before but thought I recognized from one of your episodes. I bought it and brought it with me to another out of state job. I was drinking a bottle of it while checking my email. One of your Beer America episodes was available to watch (this one). The first two swallows we’re bitter but very flowery. I’m a big malt scottish ale, creamy, thick, even sweet kind of guy, but this beer was such good quality that I really like it. The beer, Brooklyn Lager, one of Garret’s beers. Just goes to show you, quality will win out every time even if the style is not your type.

Thanks for all your reviews. They do make a difference.

  • Paul Said,

Thanks John, thats really one of the best comments you can give! The whole idea of this site is to bring American Craft beer related video to the web. Right now, our budget only affords us to video blog about beers – so if one of those helped you to pick a beer out that you liked, then we’ve done our job. Thanks to everyone else who has commented on this site!
